AMGen Incorporation is the global biotechnology enterprise which was established in the year 1980. The headquarters of AMGen Inc. are situated at the Newbury Park – the part of Thousand Oaks in California – the United States. The company is supposed to be the biggest autonomous biotechnology enterprise which employs around 15,000 people.

The term AMGen is the combination of the original name of the company which broadly denotes Applied Molecular Genetics which gradually became the formal name of the company during 1983 – precisely 3 years of the company’s incorporation as well as the first ever public offerings inadvertently.  

AMGen is also reported to have strong history of taking over a few of the most leading corporate enterprises such as: Synergen Inc during 1994, Kinetix Pharmaceuticals Inc during 2000, Immunex Corporation during 2002, Tularik Inc during 2004, Abgenix Inc during 2006, Avidia Inc also during 2006, Ilypsa Inc and Alantos Pharmaceuticals Holdings Inc both during the current year i.e. 2007. 

It is reported that for poising as the most future-oriented enterprise, Business Week has AMGen in the 4th position on the S&P 500 on the strength of ratio calculations made apparently on research and development expenses or budgets along with capital spending, and the total outlays by the contenders. AMGen showed the fourth highest ratio figuring as 506:1000. The company is also the member of the Pennsylvania Bio Commerce Organization.
