Baxter International Inc was founded during 1931 at its headquarters located in Deerfield, Illinois, the United States. The company was established as the first producer of commercially manufactured intravenous solutions. During the completion of initial two years by 1933, the company distributed products formulated by another company in Los Angeles owned by Dr. Donald E. Baxter who was the Medical Missionary to China earlier. In the same year the company began its first production unit in the renovated automobile showroom in Glenview, Illinois, USA. 

 

During 1939, the company was named Baxter Laboratories and launched the first sterile, vacuum type blood collection and storage unit called Transfuso-Vac container. Earlier to that the blood was usually stored for just a few hours and this new container permitted storage for up to 21 days virtually making the blood banking for the first time. Baxter today is truly the international healthcare company employing almost 48,000 people and achieving the huge sales mark of 10.4 billion USD for the year 2006 as revealed.
