Established over three and a half decade back sometimes during 1971 following the amalgamation between Schering AG of Germany and Plough Inc of the United States, Schering Plough Corporation was formed having its headquarters situated at Kenilworth, New Jersey, NJ, USA. Schering AG is said to date back to 1851 when Ernst Schering launched it in Germany.

 

Due to the America’s participation in the WW-II during 1941, the US President Franklin Delano Roosevelt ordered to seize the assets of Schering AG in the United States. The company then was renamed Schering Corporation and was under the control of the US Government administration up to 1952. It was then freed and was sold to the private company.  

 

During 1971 Schering Corporation was amalgamated with Plough Inc and renamed the entity as Schering Plough. Plough was formed during 1908 by an entrepreneur named Abe Plough in Memphis vicinity after having borrowed 125 USD from his father for initiating the business at the age of just 16.  He initiated business by mixing Plough’s Antiseptic Healing Oil which was claimed to be the excellent remedy for any disorders of breasts. On the strength of excellent management and inventive approaches with marketing intelligence he developed the company.

 

Schering Plough also owns and manages the leading foot care brand called Dr. Scholl’s and the skin care line of products known as Coppertone. The company now produces many pharmaceutical formulations of which the most reputed brands include: Claritin and Clarinex – the anti-allergy medications; the anti-cholesterol medication called Vytorin which is formulated in alliance with Merck & Co.

 

Schering Plough’s plant at Upper Hut, New Zealand is the biggest unit producing veterinary vaccines in the world.
